Sometimes personal tragedy strikes and you need to talk. Often systemic oppression and microaggressions can cause depression, anxiety and PTSD. I believe that hope is an endurant quality that gets us through the hardest parts of our life. Counseling is about restoring hope and advocacy within the context of an apathetic society. I teach self advocacy skills and boundary setting.
My overall approach is compassion focused. I believe that clients know what is in their best interest and I hope to assist you in reaching your goals.
I am a Queer Transgender guy. To me, knowledge and insight are the keys to personal freedom. In my free time I enjoy reading and walks. I find personal healing in my connection to other people and to nature.
I use psychodynamic "talk therapy" and Existential therapy with clients primarily to process negative experiences. CBT and DBT skills help build healthier communication and manage anxiety. I have experience working with diverse groups including queer clients, transgender clients, clients with trauma, PTSD, and Dissociative Identity Disorder. I've worked with people struggling with drugs/alcohol use, codependency, and love addiction.
